Katherine Taylor

Katherine begins her work with a simple sketch which she keeps by her side as she builds the piece. She accepts that the process of creating a piece can feel chaotic to begin with. It is a conversation between the shape imagined and what the clay is comfortable with. The sculpture goes through different stages to get to it final manifestation. Once built, the sculpture is smoothed or carved and the surface decorated with slips and marks, creating a narrative around the piece.
