Louise McNiff
Louise’s slab-built vessels are inspired by walks on the vast open moorland of the Peak District. Louise makes numerous drawings, fascinated by the shapes of the ancient rock formations and how dark patches of tree belt, stone walls and hedges fragment the land. Her works in clay develop intuitively, allowing each unique piece to find its own conclusion. She carves lines into the surface of each form, into which she then inlays coloured slip. Further slip decoration is monoprinted, painted and stencilled, adding further layers of drawing, mark making and colour to the forms.
